  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cumin
  • 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs
  • 3 slices of stale bread crumb
  • Sunflower oil for frying

For the Sauce

  • tomatoes
  • 1 dessert spoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt
  • Red powder pepper

How to Make Izmir Meatball?

1- After putting the ground meat in a deep bowl, add the grated onion, breadcrumbs, stale bread crumb, egg, very finely chopped parsley, salt, and spices, and knead well.

2- Tear off pieces slightly larger than walnuts from the mixture you kneaded and prepare oval-shaped meatballs.

3- After lightly frying the oval meatballs you prepared in hot oil, transfer them onto a paper towel.

4- After peeling the potatoes, cut them into wedges (apple slices). After salting, throw them into hot oil and fry lightly. Then take them onto a paper towel.

5- After frying the meatballs and potatoes, you can proceed to the sauce preparation process. For this, chop the tomatoes into wedges and cook them with tomato paste in olive oil for about 10 minutes without stirring.

6- After adding salt and powder pepper to the tomatoes and seasoning them, take the sauce off the stove.

7- After placing the meatballs and potatoes in a heat-resistant container, drizzle the sauce you prepared over them.

8- Chop the green peppers, whose seeds you have cleaned, into large pieces and add them to the dish.

9- Then, put the dish into the oven you preheated to 200 degrees and bake for about 15 minutes.

10- You can serve the oven-baked Izmir meatballs with fava beans and rice pilaf.

What Are the Tips for Izmir Meatballs?

1- Add a teaspoon of baking soda to the ground meat while preparing the mixture.

2- Make sure the ground meat is medium-fat and well-ground.

3- If the bread you use is stale, the meatball cooks easier.

4- Mix the ingredients and cover with plastic wrap before cooking the dish. Then let this mixture rest for 15 minutes.

Bon appétit..
